Tea and Tents WI Camping Weekend
A camping get-together like no other, just for WI members! Hello Campers, Friends and Curious Onlookers! So, we’ve done some final accounting, and we’re pleased to be able to announce that we will be sharing £5,931.38 between our three chosen charities - Denman College, Women’s Aid and Welsh Women’s Aid. Thank you so much to everyone who gave so generously, ran workshops, activities, raffles and bars to raise money, or bought merchandise and helped fundraise! We genuinely couldn’t be more thrilled and had so much fun whilst raising this money for such worthy causes. Setting up Tea & Tents has been a fantastic experience, and we love seeing your feedback and we know how much it means to you all. We’re also thrilled that other camping events have popped up around the country and are spreading the love to more WI members. In the run up to T&T, we had an amazing team of helpers (the Secret Squirrels) and we are so grateful to them for all their hard work. They really did work their bushy tails off! We’ve also had plenty of kind offers of help from so many of you. However, we’re sure you’ll understand that there are certain things that need to be done by an individual (for example, India takes on the graphic design, Sue does all of the site liaison and Clare is the treasurer). Each year, the three of us (voluntarily, gladly and willingly) gave up months of our free and family time to make sure that T&T was the awesome event that it was, however we don’t feel that we can invest this kind of time again. We’ve had dramas, complaints, grumbles and quibbles from campers - this does take it out of us and grinds down our resilience, but the fun and joy that so many of you bring has built us back up. Thank you to those of you who have been nothing but supportive. It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve made the decision that T&T 2018 is to be the last in its current format. We’ll be closing down the website and email account in the next few weeks or so. We hope to organise something in the future that sticks to our original ethos of “sharing skills, enjoying time together and camping in a field!” We’re not sure what that might be or what it’ll look like, but do keep an eye out on Facebook for news. So, thank you again – we’ll be leaving the Facebook Page open for people to share photos, memories and continue the amazing friendships and relationships that have arisen. T&T was organised and run by a small group of WI members from around the country who all work full-time in their day jobs and gave their time to T&T voluntarily, taking no payment. The only reward they got is to see all the happy, smiley people having a wonderful weekend during the event! Please remember it is not in any way associated with the National Federation of Women's Institutes, county federations or any specific WI. |
